Another One in Braces...

I forgot to share the braces photo a few weeks ago.

I just love the horrifying look of the kids with that big lip opening contraption on their face!  Super scary.

Time continues to soldier on and these darn kids get older and older.  Thank goodness I have taken lots of pictures over the years...

Food as Fuel Meal Planning

So, I shared with you the Buzzfeed Detox Menu a few weeks ago and it was a raging success around my house.  I lost 6 lbs and The Big Guy lost almost 12 lbs!  I think the greatest thing about this plan is that by the end of the 14 days I really began to see food as fuel rather than an experience. It's pretty rare that something changes my entire perspective the way the last 14 days has done.

Don't get me wrong, I still like to experience food but not every meal has to be special in that way.  Meals are sometimes (often) fuel stops to get me from point A to point B.

This point-of-view has really helped make special meals even more special.  We still "cheated" when it would count toward an experience, like special dinners out, a graduation party, celebrating the last day of school, but it didn't impact our weight loss because 80% of the time we ate very healthy. I don't even like to think of them as "cheats" since it's really just going with the flow of life and choosing when to indulge and when to simply "fuel-up".

So, spring-boarding from the 14 day detox, I have worked on my own meal plan for next week.  I tried to stick with the same criteria as the detox plan and chose recipes that were gluten-free, low carb, and "clean". I figured, if I did all this work I might as well share!

I saved everything that required a recipe to my Mean Plan Pinterest Board.

Do I need to include a disclaimer that I'm not a doctor, dietician, or medical professional?  Do I need to say I'm just trying to live what I learned with that "diet" I tried and wanted to share as I dip my toe into changing the way I view food and the meal plan I made for my family?  Probably, just to be safe...
