Morning Sickness Debate

So, all the world is abuzz with the news of Kate and Will's baby news.  The only reason we learned the news so early is because of Kate's hospitalization due to severe morning sickness.

On the radio this week I heard a lot of callers complaining that Kate "should just suck it up", "we've all been there" etc...

Now it seems that Holly Madison is also hospitalized for morning sickness!

It's Feedback Friday...

Have you ever experienced extreme morning sickness?

Do you think hospitalization is legitimate or a cry for attention?

  1. If I was rich and famous, I could think of a lot better places to spend my time than a hospital. I have to imagine that she must of needed some serious medical help. If she wanted attention, she could just sun bath topless somewhere.

  2. The condition the duchess has is legit. It's not morning sickness. I had a friend that was hospitalized for it with her first baby. What a misery! She had a healthy beautiful baby and went on to have two more. I know it's a sign that the pregnancy is at least healthy, if the mom can get medical intervention to prevent dehydration and malnutrition. No pregnant woman in her right mind wants that kind of attention. I tend to believe she's in her right mind - she has behaved as such all this time, after all (:

  3. I had to had an IV with my fourth baby and it made all the difference! Those that don't experience morning sickness can never understand how debilitating it can be.

  4. Definitely legit. Morning Sickness is misery and I know of other women who were so sick that they had to be hospitalized.

  5. This is legitimate. I had hyperemesis gravidarum as well during pregnancy, and it was terrible. I was on zofran and phenergan for the duration of the pregnancy. At one point before they diagnosed me, I lost 15 pounds in a week and was in danger of hospitalization for dehydration. Help HER is a great source of education on the issue. http://www.helpher.org/

  6. 100% legit - I was so sick with my twins (for 22 weeks) that I was hospitalized to get IV fluids and they said if I couldn't start keeping at least liquids down I would have to stay. I was on Zofran until 22 weeks when I finally started weaning off. My twins weighed 7.9 lbs and 6.3 lbs at birth and I only gained 20 lbs in the whole pregnancy. I think 3 or 4% of women experience this - so the other 97% who experience 'normal' morning sickness just can't fully understand how debilitating and dangerous it is.

  7. I agree that it is something you can't relate to unless you experience it! Am I the only one to have heard this criticism of Kate? Was anyone surprised by that?

  9. No one is going to take any chances with a royal pregnancy! Having horrible morning sickness was my worst fear before becoming pregnant, and not experiencing it was a Godsend. But my heart goes out to those who do. So if she needs to be hospitalized to keep the royal baby safe, do it.

  11. I feel for her. I was so sick with my first that I lost 28 pounds and couldn't work. It was terrible. I got no sympathy, meds, or IV's from my doctor. It was my first baby and I didn't know any better. None of my friends had experienced it either. I was told it was in my head. ugh. Thankfully that doctor was on vacation when I delivered and I fell in love with the on call doctor and switched to her for my next three babies (can't believe I did it 3 more times. ha!). #2 and #3 were not quite as terrible thanks to meds and IV fluids. With #4 I gain 60 lbs even though I felt like i had the stomach flu for 9 months. ugh! Tell Kate to call me... I can give sympathy to her. :)

  12. I know women that have had it, and it is horrific. I hate that she has it, but I'm glad some attention is being focused on it. I just wish it hadn't taken someone famous to get extremely ill for it to happen.

  13. I think we should just leave them alone - allow them to have a normal pregnancy without everyone up their backside all the time. Why would anyone "cry wolf" and spend 3 days in the hospital if they don't truly need it. The media and paparazzi just need to back off an leave them alone! Last thing we want is a repeat of what happened with Diana...

  14. I've had friends who had terrible bouts with it. It's real. They should leave the royals alone!

    Happy Holidays!
