We were never short on great food during our Girl's Weekend, cinnamon buns, lasagna, tortilla soup, salad, cupcakes, birthday cake...
One of the recipes I made ahead was my sister-in-law's Sausage Souffle recipe (Woot! Hi, Sheri!) from my family cookbook.
It's yummy and has all the breakfast food groups in one dish (eggs, cheese, sausage and bread, of course!)
Ingredients:
1 pkg. Jimmy Dean sausage (cooked and drained)
4 cups, cubed day old bread (I used Italian bread)
2 cups shredded cheddar
10 eggs, slightly beaten
4 cups milk
1 t. dry mustard
1 t. salt
1/4 t. onion powder
In a well buttered 9x13 pan, place bread cubes. Sprinkle with cheese and sausage. Combine the remaining ingredients and pour over the top.
Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight.
Bake in a 325 degree oven for one hour or until center is set.
Serve with lots of girlfriends and mimosas!
Girl in the Sticks brought this great idea for gift tags that could pull double duty as Christmas ornaments!
Simply thread seed beads onto a thin wire:
Print out the letter of your choice on paper and bend the beaded wire to mimic the shape.
Tie on a ribbon and attach to your gifts! Ta Da!
Aside from crafting and eating, we also took pictures:
And took pictures of ourselves taking pictures:
The Treat Girl is going to give us a lesson in manicures when we come back tomorrow - just in time for the weekend!

Okay, I'm sitting here with a tummy ache as I write this because I am, apparently, unable to control myself. I ate so many of this new c...
Thanks for posting this recipe...I was in search for an "overnight casserole" recipe to try for Christmas morning, so now, the search is over! I also love the monogram ornament idea...will have to try that.
ReplyDeleteOoh, yummy. I do love a good breakfast recipe. Ha, even for dinner actually. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the ornaments too. Do your heads ever hurt from having all of that creativity in one room?! ;)
Seriously.
XO*T
Thanks for the ornament letter idea, those are so great!
ReplyDeleteThe recipe is one I think even my picky husband would like! I'll have to give it a whirl!
ReplyDeleteOooo I like the letter... I'm totally into easy things!
ReplyDelete{thanks for stopping by my blog}
Oh how fun!! That Sausage Souffle sounds really YUMMY!! And what a brilliant idea for gift tags! I'm SO going to use that this year! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope this is not too stupid a question but I really want to try the recipe so I can change up what I take to work for our annual Christmas ornament exchange breakfast. :) When you say "or until center is set" do you mean it's like when you put a toothpick in something you're baking and it comes out clean and that's when you know it's done? Or just make sure it's not mushy in the middle? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI meant to get that recipe from you.....I think I'm making it for Christmas morning....then moving my dinner up to 3pm...thanks for helping me brainstorm my Christmas day feeding schedule! :)
ReplyDeleteLorena - You don't have to stick in a toothpick, but you can see if it's still looking like raw egg and jiggling. Just make sure it's golden and not all slimy in the middle :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer, can't wait to try it! :)
ReplyDeleteJen, I've enjoyed reading the "Weekend Getaway" series. And from the comments I'm reading, your readers have been enjoying the craft and receipe sharing as well.
