Baby Smokestack - Feedback Friday

I came across an article in the Huffington Post covering a 2 year old Sumatran child addicted to cigarettes this week.

Little Ardi Rizal was introduced to smoking by his father when he was just 18 months old and is now up to a 40 cigarette a day habit at the tender age of 2. Though the government has offered many incentives to encourage the father to stop giving him cigarettes, he refuses on the grounds that the child is addicted and throws tantrums when he's not allowed to smoke.

I am speechless, so it's up to you.

It's Feedback Friday...Let me have it!

  1. Arrest the father on the charge of attempted murder! Makes me physically ill to see this...so sad for this child who most likely will be dead by age 10.

  2. Well my child throws tantrums when I don't let her have more than 2 cookies at snack time, and I hold my ground.
It's called being a parent, and unfortunately poor excuses for parents are really not starting to surprise me anymore.
Although, this is indeed disgusting along with surprising.

  3. Oh, I saw this too and it seriously made me sick to my stomach! This poor kid! Heavy, smoking like crazy and carrying a lit cigarette around at the age of 2! The dad should be charged with something. Not sure what legally (I do agree with Janet though)~ at least child endangerment, child abuse.. SOMETHING!

  4. My dh and I were talking about this the other night. I think it's terrible! OMG, besides all the health risks of smoking, the 2 year old is holding fire! I wonder how many times he's burned himself or someone else. That poor baby, because at 2, he is still a baby. I just don't know how anyone could think this is ok.

  5. I saw this last night - and was amazed. It's appalling. But, can I admit, it was also a bit funny at times to see this chubby cheeked baby handling the ciggy so incredibly. It's weird, a spectacle. SO WRONG in so many ways. At first, I thought it was a joke of some kind, like the dancing Chumba Wumba baby. But when you break down that this kid is smoking 40 cigs a day because his parents are avoiding tantrums. Seriously? What kind of people are these?! Horrible.

  6. Sad, sad, sad. It is a good reminder to me, though, of how impressionable little kids are, even at a very young age. AND, this dissipates a bit of my guilt over sharing sips of my frappachino with my own little girl. ;)

  7. I really hope that no one responds positively to this! This is HORRID! I saw this and got soooo angry! That father should be locked up for a number of things. Child abuse number 1. He's going to be really sorry when he no longer has a little boy around. Let him throw his tantrums at least then he's getting fresh air!

  11. Appalling. Apparently the inability to parent through a tantrum is a global phenomenon.

A tiny puff of what's wrong with this world.

  12. It looks like a trick he has learned - the dad is making a buck off this for sure. But is the kid really inhaling? probably not. Even so, how dumb can it get?

  16. The video won't play, but I already know that I'm thoroughly disgusted by this situation. It adds a whole new level to the idea of crappy parenting.

  17. Guess I was a little slow on the uptake...the videos seem to all be removed from you tube...as they should be...since this is child abuse...or would be viewed as such here in the US and that child would have been removed from that dad.

I guess the next time Lil D throws a tantrum because I won't let him run in the street...walk to the park alone...jump off the top stair...I'll let him...wouldn't want to have to deal with a tantrum...heck, maybe I should just offer him some drano to calm him down.

  18. I saw this on the news here in Australia this week and was horrified beyond words. This is child abuse.

  19. It's too bad that YouTube removed that video, because I think everyone needs to see how ridiculous it is. But you can still find it online. That story really pisses me off. And yes, it is 100% the parents fault. Who introduces cigarettes to a child at age 18 months. Poor kid never had a chance...
