I have been so sick this week with some sort of cold/flu that has me down and out! I don't like to take lots of medicines, so my Neti Pot is saving me!
What is a Neti Pot, you ask? It's this little teapot looking thing:
I got mine from CVS Pharmacy, but most health and beauty sections carry this item today.
Though the neti pot is new to us, it actually began in ancient India many centuries ago.
A neti pot cleans your sinuses, relieving pressure and congestion from colds and allergies. It kind of reminds me of when I used to spray saline up my baby's nose when they had a cold.
You add the little salt packet, fill the neti with lukewarm water, insert the spout in one nostril, then tilt your head to the side. The water will travel up into your sinuses and back out the other nostril, clearing everything in it's path.
I saw my first neti pot on a show with Dr. Oz and only just bought one about 6 months ago.
Do you neti?

My girlfriend came over to refill my estrogen reserves last week, and brought with her a fantastic craft for us to do together while chat...

Okay, I'm sitting here with a tummy ache as I write this because I am, apparently, unable to control myself. I ate so many of this new c...
I used be a HUGE advocate of the neti pot and I seriously love it. BUT, sadly the last two times I've used it I SWEAR it's caused my ear infections. I used it at the very first sign of the sinus issues, but it quickly developed into a sinus infection and double ear infection. So now I'm nervous to use it!
ReplyDeleteYou bet!! I couldn't stay well without it!!!
ReplyDeleteMommalzzy, ear infections are caused by not taking care of your allergies. :)
I HATE the neti pot. I was on a family vacation with most of my siblings, mom etc and started getting what I thought was a cold. My brother swears by and LOVES the thing...he even brought it on the trip if that tells you anything...so he told me I should try it. He demonstrated it for me...then with he and my husband watching I attempted the thing...it was NOT good. I'm not sure where the water went, but it did not come out my other nostril...
ReplyDeleteI kept getting worse and ended up in the ER with bacterial bronchitis...so I don't think that little netti would have done much good anyway...but I don't think I'll ever try it again.
Of course, every time I see one or hear about one I do laugh out loud at that moment as the 3 of us stood in the bathroom watching me gag, snort and do all sorts of other things...the boys laughing the whole time. Makes for a good family story during that vacation:)
There was even a cougar town episode about the neti pot and I was crying I laughed so hard because of my experience...I can't find the clip of him doing it wrong...but here's where he finally gets it...

I'm so scared to use a neti pot!! What if I drown? Haha! I saw it on Dr. Oz as well..so it MUST be amazing...:)
ReplyDeleteI love my neti pot! I had suffered with sinus headaches for years until I started using it. I have not had a sinus headache in 2 years.
ReplyDeleteWe totally neti! Ok, well I neti and my husband thinks I'm crazy...can't get him to try it. Love it! Truly seems like the best thing for allergies.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby Netis! He used to every day but then it slowly got better and better, now he rarely needs to use it at all! Firm believer here!
ReplyDeleteI don't.....but my dad's girlfriend swears by hers...hope you're feeling better super quick!
ReplyDeleteMy DS and I love it!! It truly helps! We are sinus/allergy sufferers and this really brings relief! Like others have said, my DH will not try it! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't. I've heard tons of great stuff about it though!
ReplyDeleteFeel better!
I think I'm gonna buy one for hubby who has serious sinus and allergy issues...as for me, I could not get the hang of it and gave up. Maybe I will give it another go, too, altho my troubles are not near as bad as his.
ReplyDeleteI wondered where you've been!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has used one for years! The first one was my measuring cup! Eeuuwwweee! I bought him a real neti pot after that!
I know you already have one but you can get an extra (spare?) neti pot when you "like" NeilMed Neti Pot on facebook for free! They even send you two packets to go with it. Gotta love free stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteMy sister loves it, but when I tried it, I don't know where the water went but I was is crazy pain in my ear, nose, sinus area. It was killing me! I haven't tired it since! Surely I was doing something wrong.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get better soon.
ReplyDeleteI do not own a neti pot, but I bought a rinse solution one time. It didn't help...I was so messed up.
oh, i've never heard of them before! i wonder if we get them here in Oz...
ReplyDeleteNever tried it...I am a little scared to. I don't like things up my nose.
ReplyDeleteUsed it once when disgustingly sick for a long long time. It's up there with waterboarding as far as a good time is concerned.
ReplyDeleteGirl you better believe I Neti! I thought it seemed like such an unusual practice when I first heard about it, and now I'll always keep a Neti pot in my home. I'm like you- I don't like to turn to drugs unless I have to, so mine comes in very handy during allergy season.
