It's Feedback Friday... Any thoughts???

  1. Well, about a third of the way through the first book I thought "Is the heat on?" :) Until the domination stuff started, it really was more like a good Saturday night!
Actually, I think the writing is horrible. The author claims not to be a writer and I think that is pretty evident. I read the first book about a month ago and still have not picked up the second. From others I have heard that the second book ends the way you think it should and the third book isn't necessary. I WILL read the second book as soon as I finish Hunger Games just because I have to know!

    1. I still have to read the second book, too.

  2. I wrote a post titled The 50 Shades Of Evil. I think it is a very harmful book.

    1. I can tell from your blog post that you haven't read the book. It doesn't have anything to do with having an affair on your husband or cheating. The couple in the book are in a monogamous relationship.

I don't think there is anything wrong with experimentation to keep the spice in your marriage and if a book does it for you then more power to you. Nope, not evil.

    2. I don't see how you can say that a book series is evil if you haven't even read them. Geeze, talk about judgmental. If you don't want to read the books then don't, but don't act like everyone who does read them is a terrible person. Oh, I did read them about a month ago, and my sex life is still on a fabulous high with my husband of almost 15 years.

    3. I never fail to giggle at people who love to express an opinion on something they know nothing about. Makes me laugh every time. I always hear the voice of the "Church Lady" in my head saying "now isn't that special..."

  3. I think it is sad when there are so many really good writers (smutty and otherwise) that this got published and is making so much money. I would rather see the good fortune smile on someone that is actually talented.

    1. I don't know, I think every author has to start someplace. She edited her own book and dipped her toe in not expecting any of this. I'm sure many successful authors would cringe when re-reading their first attempts! Yikes!

  4. I have the first book + have not read it. Our daughter (adult daughter) has read all of them. Eventually, I'll have some spare time to form my own opinion.

    What did you think?

    1. I have to read the second book because the first book stopped right in the middle of the story. I had some issues at first because I have never experienced or even fantasized about some of the things in the book, but it was interesting to read about. And, like Suzan said in her comment I preferred the "vanilla sex" in the beginning of the book to the domination thing.

But, it did cause a little tingle!

  5. They weren't great works of literature, but I enjoyed reading them...enough to read the all 3 books 3 times. I'm one of those crazy people that tends to like "kinky f*ckery" so it was right up my alley :)

  6. Jill, you crack me up! I will have to remember that little phrase :)

I think I mentioned on Facebook that I was so sick of the word "murmured" by the middle of the first book but sometimes I like to read fluff and this fit the bill.

The author isn't the greatest writer, but it was an interesting summer read that taught me a few things after 16 years of marriage!

  7. I haven't read them....my sister read all three within a week and couldn't put them down. Maybe I'll have to borrow hers to see what all the "fuss" is about :)

    1. I just read the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" series and preferred them to this book. They are well written, have a story, good characters, AND a bit of sex. Bonus :)

  8. Amen, Jennifer and Jill!!
Was it mind-blowing writing? No. But the author herself admits that she is not an exceptionally talented writer. She called these books her 'midlife crisis, every fantasy she has ever had written down'. Were they entertaining, spicy and indeed educational? Absolutely!! It was a fun read and everybody should enjoy a fun read on occasion. If a person is afraid of, or offended by an erotic novel then they should simply move on. For the rest of us who believe that every marriage can benefit from a little extra heat, read the series!

  9. I read all three books in less than one week! By the end, I was crying my eyes out! You have to read all three to understand everything or you miss the whole point of the book.

  10. I haven't read them yet; which is unusual given the hype and the fact that it has a bit of D/s written in. I actually LOVE a dominate male/submissive female plot. Since I've said that, let me also say I am a very strong independant female. However, I've always been fascinated with D/s. It's my guilty pleasure to read and a bit of 'play' never hurt in the bedroom either. However, reading some of the reviews it seems the author didn't do much research about the D/s world (bc they say it isn't true to life). Whatever, either way it's FICTION. Which is suppose to be fun to read! I certainly wouldn't think of it as 'evil' ..then again, I'm a VERY open minded, love and let live type gal.
I'm sure I will end up reading the series eventually.

  12. Well Ive just finished the first book and feel compelled to start the second. I decided to read the first just to see what all the hype was all about. I was a bit surprised with the content although Id heard that it was how was it put in a tv interview with the author "mummy porn". I found it rather interesting.

  13. I haven't read them, and I am not against them- I just don't get it. There are smutty (i'm assuming from all the reviews that it is basically a sex novel, right?) books all over the place. What is so intriguing about these? I doubt I'll read them, simply because they don't sound the least bit interesting/intriguing to me. All of the reviews I have read just talk about the blatant sex in the books, and I really prefer some kind of content to them besides sex. That all being said- it's a personal opinion, and I couldn't possibly care who else reads them, so I'm not picking on anyone else or telling anyone to agree with me. Just clarifying.
