Ordinary Beauty

Maybe it's my artistic nature, but I tend to see things within ordinary things. Beautiful things. Shapes or colors that hint at something more. I haven't done a post about Ordinary Beauty in awhile, so let me remind you of some of the beauty around you every day. This concept for a post series all started with the pattern of grease in a pot soaking overnight:

Once you open your eyes to the beauty around you, you begin to notice things. Like, the pattern of pancake batter left in the bottom of the pan (do you see a hummingbird?):

Or the way the clouds part to form a heart (a message of love?):

Silhouettes in a culvert pipe (who would think this ugly, dirty pipe would be ideal for a photography session?):

What Ordinary Beauty did you see this week?

There is still plenty of time to link up with the Tutorial Tuesday Party this week. Up for grabs is a $30 gift certificate to The Cat's Paw, which means fantastic fabric by-the-yard! Vintage buttons! Fabric baskets! Go Check it OUT!

  1. I love those pictures. I know I have been trying to find the beauty here even though is is so flat. Sometimes it is easier than others. Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. I saw a heart in the sky/clouds last week and wished so badly I had my camera with me :)

And what a wonderful treasure it is to see beauty in the ordinary things!

  4. The other day my Baby Girl was finishing her Lucky Charms (as a snack) and with the last few little bits she would circle them in the bowl and then we would try pick out the shapes. I would never have come up with that idea on my own. I wish I could see things through the eyes of a child every day.

  8. This morning I was waiting at a red light behind a car that had what I think was supposed to be a Christian message. I looked at the car with the various Christian stickers to make sure. The delivery was not Christian - it was hateful and confrontational. I felt annoyed and judgmental of the people in the car in front of me. At that very moment I looked up and saw the cloudless sky above me marked with a perfect crucifix (don't know if it came from vapor trails or a cloud formation). It reminded me that sometimes people co-op religion to put forth their own angry agenda. I can not change this fact but I can decide to be more gracious in my own life, and to look for the lesson when things (or people) aren't just the way I want them. The sky was beautiful.
