Double Duty Utensils
In my house (which happens to be full of children) I find that many ordinary utensils take on additional duties. I mean, why let a fork just be a fork?!?
Seriously.
So, here are a few of the double duty utensils we use from day to day:
Corn holders serve as apple holders (this began when the kids were small and wanted to eat whole, peeled apples. Whole peeled apples are very messy!):
Pizza cutter? Nah, it's a waffle/pancake/sandwich cutter, man!
Do you like sliced eggs on your salad? Well, kids think it's so fun to eat round, sliced anything! Slice up some boiled eggs in the morning (My kids call these "boy eggs" by the way. That's cute.)
And look at the quick work it makes of bananas and strawberries!
So tell me...what ordinary utensils do you use in an extraordinary way in your home?
You have until tomorrow to link up with my Tutorial Tuesday party for a chance to win some awesome Joy Beadworks Interchangeable Bead Jewelry!

My girlfriend came over to refill my estrogen reserves last week, and brought with her a fantastic craft for us to do together while chat...

Okay, I'm sitting here with a tummy ache as I write this because I am, apparently, unable to control myself. I ate so many of this new c...
I use my pancake turner to swat flies in the summer...;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the corn cob holder idea!!! Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI loved my egg slicer, but the boys supposedly "broke" it on a strawberry...yeah, uh huh ;)
ReplyDeleteI use my kitchen shears to cut up all different kinds of food for my toddler.
ReplyDeleteBut I had never thought of the pizza cutter. That's an awesome idea. And the egg slicer too. I don't even know if I have an egg slicer.
I use my George Foreman grill as a panini press or garlic bread maker all the time. My rolling pin is a great meat tenderizer when I need to pound out chicken too :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I never thought to use the corn holders as apple holders. So clever you are! My pizza cutter ~ use it for everything.. when I'm not using my kitchen shears.. which I use for just about everything! And the slicer like you, eggs, strawberries, mushrooms... whatever I can fit into that baby :) Just reading the comment above mine and the meat tenderizer ~ hmm, I used my hubbys rubber mallet from the garage ;) Shhhh....
ReplyDeleteI love kitchen gadgets! I have several drawers full... just need to teach the kids, when doing dishes, to put them back in their right place so I can find them. Ha Ha
ReplyDeleteI'm a reptile keeper and care for a large group of geckos and other sorts of lizards. It's not really household uses and they definitely can't be used back in the kitchen but I use plastic spatulas to scrape the plastic sides of cages that are splattered with leftover food and poo. I use barbecue forks to mix up the dirt on the bottom of cages to keep it moist and fluffy.
ReplyDeleteSo funny.... I was just telling a friend about how I cut up all of my 17 month old's food with a pizza slicer! Great minds think alike!
ReplyDeletei have never used those corn holders for apples (although it is a great idea!) but that pizza cutter is my favorite! i find all kids of crazy things to cut with that! cute post!
ReplyDeleteI don't necessarily use anything out of the ordinary....I just wished I had cashed in on the "chip clip" ..........seriously!!?? Clothespins were working fine.
ReplyDeleteWe use our muffin tins (6 cup tins) for lunch some times. I can put less interesting food in them and they the kids are excited to eat it.
ReplyDeleteI use my pastry blender to smash up egg yolk for deviled eggs.
