Summer Mantle

Funny story...if you're a freak, like me. I had my Spring Mantle up until last week. It's July. I'm in denial that summer is zooming by and I've been looking at my flowering dogwood branches for months thinking I really need to get a grip and move on with my life...and seasons.

So, I begin to look in my highly disorganized basement for the random unmarked box that could possibly contain all the decorating items from last year's Summer Mantle. I could almost hear The Big Guy's voice chanting "If you would put things away where they BELONG..." Yeah, yeah, yeah, shut it.

Long story short, I couldn't find most of the items. They obviously sprouted legs and walked off. There is no other explanation. (isn't the drama of this decorating moment gripping?)

I found what I could, shopped the house for the rest, and came up with this:

Meh...okay, I guess. Not very inspiring. (By the way, isn't it funny how my green paint reads tan in the close up photos?)

The Big Guy came home and said "Oh, you changed the mantle. Um, nice and simple." Yup, the kiss of death. It's not totally me. It's quiet, and understated, and bland. Where's the color? The pop?

So, at 8pm I decided to tackle a project I've been planning for over a year, back when I first painted this room:

Oh, yeah, that's it. Want to learn how to make this mosaic artwork for your home? Meet me back here on Monday for a tutorial! One more look:

  1. The mosaic really does make it pop! Also impressed 'the big guy' notices! I once painted the dining room green and my husband never noticed. Can't wait to see the tutorial.

  4. I love your crafty ways! This mosaic made a huge difference on your mantle, and I can't wait to see what kind of magic you worked to make it. I am diggin' that green paint too! I'm in the process of attempting to convince my husband that our living room needs to be a calming, sage green color. He doesn't agree yet, but he will. ;-)

  7. I'm looking forward to the mosaic tutorial. I like the other art pieces as well, especially layering them together. Were they two separate pieces originally?
