The idea came to them after a discussion about what to say to girls when they asked why they wear make up. Neither of them had an answer to that question they felt comfortable with giving to a young girl, so this project was born to learn why they wear make up and how they would feel if they gave up their usual beauty routine.
I have gone sans make here a few times here. Once when I was describing my make up routine: Get your face on and once while reviewing a DIY Facial Peel from Pinterest. I wasn't 100% comfortable but it was easier the second time. It is worth considering however, why I wasn't comfortable.
It's Feedback Friday...
Why do you wear make up?
Would you be able to accept this challenge for 60 days? 30 days? A week?
Do you ever go out in public without make up?
What would you miss more - Make up, Shaving, Hair products, or Jewelry?

I don't think I could do it. I would definitely miss make up the most. It just really makes me feel better about myself. I am by no means "all made up" every day - - I am a busy mother and wife and am constantly on the go, but I take the time each morning to apply some make up and I just find that my day goes better if I do - - that probably sounds nuts but it is true. I am guessing that it just helps me feel better about myself and it is the one thing I always do for myself when some days it feels like there is no time leftover for me at all.
ReplyDeleteI find that I feel more confident with make up on too (mostly some tinted moisturizer).
DeleteI think I have the opposite problem. I'm not a total slob, but I tend to let myself get a little frumpy. I'm turning 40 this year and gave myself a 40 by 40 challenge. (click here if curios: http://trophyw.blogspot.com/2011/12/40-by-40.html). I set goals like wear lipstick for 30 days, buy eyeshadow and learn how to use it, no pony tails for 30 days. Currently I am in the middle of wearing lipstick every time I leave the house for 30 days. Here's what I've learned: I feel sexier and more beautiful when I wear lipstick. Since lipstick was previously only worn on special occasions, it makes me feel a little special.
ReplyDeleteIt's spring break and hubby and daughter are home so I asked them. Hubby was pretty much fine w/ all (especially the uncomfortable clothes). He couldn't deal w/ the not shaving. He thinks it's just part of good grooming. He thinks going all Tammy Faye Baker is gross, but a little make-up is fine and it's just part looking and feeling your best.
14 year old daughter-(doesn't wear make-up-except sometimes lip-gloss) says she does her hair for her. It's fun and it makes her feel pretty.
Unless you have some weird over-grooming OCD that you are trying to overcome, all three of us think this experiment is a little pointless-or at least would be for us.
I think no shaving would get to me the most too!
DeleteThis one makes me laugh!
ReplyDeleteI never wear make up. Not even when I go out and dress up for a night out. I feel like when I apply it, I look more ridicoulus than without it - I never had the patience to aquire any painting skills when it comes to my face.
Hair products? I shower everyday, and wash my hair with an ordinairy shampoo. The cheap sort. And that´s about it. No blow drying, no spray, no what-so-ever. Either I push it into a ponytail, or I wear my favourite woolen hat.
I shaved my armpits once in my life, and didn´t like it.
But I don´t feel slobby with it. Actually, I think I´m quite vain, and I like to look at myself so much that it´s embarresing. I like bright, colorfull skirts and shirts, and jewelry my kids made, and scarfs around my head.
So - bring on that project. I can easily go without all that stuff for more than 60 days ;)
Maybe the colorful clothing and scarves serve as your make up? Interesting thought :)
DeleteI'd miss the makeup, but not because I use a ton of it. It's just that pregnancy did some funny stuff to my skin, and my face thinks it's a teenager again. Really? You'd think you can outgrow your acne, but no. I don't wear makeup on the weekends though, since I really don't care what the people at the grocery store think about my face!

If I've gone all day without doing my hair or make up I find that I want to do a little something before my husband comes home. I don't care about the people at the store either! Good point!
DeleteThe makeup I could maybe give up....I don't throw any on unless we're going some place..other than the grocery store (for shame for shame, I know!)
ReplyDeleteNow, Not Shaving my legs for 60 days would drive me crazy!!!! And no hair products would make me look like a frizzy mess...I'd have to live in a ponytail the whole time!
I wear makeup to even out my skin tone. I have weird darker blotches on my jaw. I occasionally go without makeup other than tinted moisturizer which I where even if I am running to the grocery store for a quick half gallon of milk. Since I live alone, not shaving wouldn't bother me. I haven't gone sleeveless since 2002 so no one would know if I started looking a bit like a monkey! I like jewelry but could certainly live without it and as long as I can blow my hair dry, I don't need products for that. Bottom line - I NEED the makeup!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually put make up on at home. I only wear it when I go out into public it seems.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I do it?
I guess because it makes me feel mor confident in the fact that it hides some of my physical flaws. Maybe I'm trying to cover up some other flaws and the only way I feel I can do it is by covering up my physical flaws.
I could probably go without makeup for a while, but I'm not sure I could do 60 days.
Shaving....eh. I could probably go 60 days without that.
I wear makeup to even out my skin tone, enhance my cheekbones, make my eyes look bigger, etc. I'll leave the house without makeup if I'm going to the gym, or just running a quick errand, but not if I'm actually going out. And I never go anywhere without first curling my lashes.
ReplyDeleteI'm a wash and go girl with my hair, so I could easily go all year without using hair product or heat tools. And I keep jewelry to a minimum.
Not shaving, though, ick. I couldn't imagine. One of my friends had her entire body lasered so that she doesn't have to shave. If I had the extra cash laying around, I'd do it, too.
Ok... shaving, I must shave ~ I have the feeling of little hairs rubbing against my pants or bed sheets. Ugh, that's the worst! I will admit, I don't necessarily wear make-up every day. Today for instance ~ go up, got the kids off to school, chatted with my painter (kitchen redo), headed to the health club for a good 5 mile run and some weight lifting, left there without showering.... went to the bank, pier 1, dry cleaner and now home. Now, I've showered, but no make up. I will put some on before I go out tonight for a awesome evening at a school carnival :) And, when I do wear makeup, it's typically with a pretty light hand and takes 5 mins or less. Even out the skin tone ~ darn sun.... a little eyeliner and mascara, blush and that's about it. I will absolutely admit though, I do doll up a bit more when I'm going "out" and we're not talking school carnival!
ReplyDeleteAs long as I could wear t-shirts and pants I would have no problem with this. As much as I would like to be confident and hairy it is the one thing I can't get past. I feel self conscious. Pretty much everything else I would have no problem skipping. I don't socialize much and I work by myself. I pretty much do what I want when I want anyways and don't feel the need to present myself a certain way.
ReplyDeleteI never wear make-up, or do much with my hair or jewelry. I do shave and don't think I could give it up entirely.
ReplyDeleteCould never, ever go without makeup for an extended period of time...I have a facial deformity, scars, so-so skin and dark under eye circle....make up makes all the difference for me. I still really dislike how I look but makeup makes it bearable. The rest I could do without, if I had to....would miss hair products too though.
ReplyDeletei almost never ever wear make-up.... only for realy special events like a wedding.. so that means once every 2 or 3 years i guess. i never dry my hair with a dryer it makes my hair go whoop to all sides... letting it dry on the air is easier and gives me time to prepare my kids for school... shaving ... well my legs only get shaven when it is skirt weather so to speak.. al the rest is twice aweek... but i know i could do with out shaving aswell... i am not a vain person, i like to be presentable but stay who i am. i do think some people are hanging their coat of selfexceptance onto hooks called the wearing of make-up, shaving of legs or putting on lots and lots of parfum.... schouldn't we all be excepting other people for what en who they are and not for how they look? and believe me, i am not beautifull with a model body and look... i am like all the others out there... just being me is hard enough in this world where all revolves around the looks and not the ingredients... oke retreating back to my little corner and keep my mouth shut again...
ReplyDeleteI went for a year without makeup when my hubby and I were traveling in our RV fulltime - and it didn't bother either one of us - but there is NO way I could give up shaving (legs or under the arm) for a week, much less 60 days. I use shampoo and conditioner and I blow dry my hair (most of the time) so I couldn't do without that either. I have noticed that since I have started wearing makeup again that I feel better about myself - and I used to NEVER go without makeup - even when I did yard work,
ReplyDeleteI know I'm late to comment, but I'm going to anyway. Hair products would be really hard for me because I have fine limp hair that drives me nuts. Makeup would be the next hardest. I don't think not shaving would bother me that much, but seeing as how I've never gone a day without shaving my underarms I'm really not sure.
ReplyDeleteI would never be able to do this because I work in a professional environment, and one of the requirements of that is looking your best. For me that requires makeup and hair fixed. I can wear pants so the shaving wouldn't be as much of an issue. Plus this would probably give my mother a heart attack. LOL
