It Was Bound To Happen...
You hear stories and you see scenes in movies where this happens but you never think it's going to happen to you...
Yes, one day after erecting our 10 foot Christmas tree, complete with many, many lights and ornaments, it tipped over and landed flat on the floor! It took us hours to clean up all the broken glass and remove everything, cut a foot off the bottom and restand it. THEN I had to decorate it all over again!
It was crazy! Has this ever happened to you?!?
Let's back up...
Things were going so smoothly. Glad I got a picture of the tree in it's 10 foot glory before we had to hack it up!

My girlfriend came over to refill my estrogen reserves last week, and brought with her a fantastic craft for us to do together while chat...

Okay, I'm sitting here with a tummy ache as I write this because I am, apparently, unable to control myself. I ate so many of this new c...
Yep, it happened to us. And luckily it happened the year my in-laws were staying with us!
ReplyDeleteSee? Everyone has a story! So crazy!
DeleteOh no, how awful!! Thankfully it hasn't happened to me (yet). Hopefully this won't be the year either :) I hope you have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Stephanie
Oh, you just wait! It will happen...someday when you least expect it! :)
DeleteYes, it has!
ReplyDeleteAnd fantastically, it happened right on Christmas Eve, when I had all my kids dressed up in their finery and wanted to arrange them around the tree for a photo. I was really in a hurry, because I had just finished writing the big showdown of my book, the food in the oven was about to burn and we had to be in church in approximately 5 minutes for my girls to sing in the choir.
So I tried arranging my kids strategically... and then came up with the brilliant idea to shift the whole tree a little to the side...
Well, I shouldn´t have done that.
Ever since I´ve resolved not to write my most gripping, violent crime chapters on Christmas Eve, since it kinda spoils the atmosphere... and I try to be prepared slightly better.
Well... at least it´s memorable! :)
That was the first thing my kids said "at least it's not Christmas yet!"
DeleteOh yes! Our tree was about 10 feet, toppled right over in the middle of the night. The hysterical part is that the kids slept through the whole thing - husband cursing, two runnings of the vaccum and the dogs barking!
ReplyDeleteThey were all standing in the kitchen when I walked in the door around 9 pm that night and I knew something was up - they said The Big Guy was just watering it and it just sllloooowwwllly tipped over as he stood there! He said at first he wasn't even sure it was actually falling!
DeleteOh no! Well at least your kids will have a funny story to tell their whole lives - "remember the year the tree fell over???"
ReplyDeleteOur tree fell over once too - the holidays are never the Norman Rockwell scenes I think they should be! But real life is pretty entertaining despite the messes.
Your family is beautiful…your boys are getting so big.
Hope you enjoy the Christmas season….chaos and all :)
You're right, it makes a funny memory :)
DeleteThis happened every year when I was growing up. Eventually we just learned to tie to the wall.
ReplyDeleteThat's even funnier that it happened every year! My brother has to tie his to the wall!
DeleteYes! One year my family had a live tree (in a pot) that refused to stay up. I think it fell over a few different times...one time it actually fell on top of my dad who happened to be laying down on the floor nearby at the time! By the time Christmas rolled around we were old pros at picking the tree up and putting all the ornaments back on.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny because when we got it upright my husband was on the floor adjusting the stand and it tipped over on him too! Just his legs were sticking out and it was so funny!
DeleteAnd you didn´t take a picture of that? Ts, ts, ts. That would make such lovely christmas cards next year!
Deleteno, it hasn't happened, but it will probably make a great story in 20 years. heck, it already makes a great story!
ReplyDeleteI'm sending upright tree vibes your way so it doesn't happen!
