Sexy Undies for Tweens?

My sister in law popped me a text this week about Jenny Erikson, a blogger for The Stir, who caused a controversy this week for saying she was alright with her 9 year old daughter shopping at Victoria Secret when she she becomes a tween.

Jenny was quoted as saying "I don't think there's anything wrong with having cute panties and bras from the big girl store" (source) She went on to explain that "No one wants to be the girl with the ugly underwear." (source )

Jenny said she probably would not by lace underwear for her daughter but find a line between pretty and sexy.

It's Feedback Friday...

Would you let your tween daughter buy underwear from Victoria's Secret?

  1. Nope. #1 I'm cheap. #2 There are tons of more appropriate cute cotton sets. #3 Taking my daughter to a store w/ lace teddies is awkward for everyone

    1. I just watched the clip. More disturbing: who goes on national tv to talk about her 9-year-old's underwear and her "emerging sexuality"?

  2. I think I would struggle even bringing my tween into Aero - and it is way more appropriate than VS. I would want my baby girl to be able to have 'cute' stuff, but there is no reason as a tween that she should be 'sexy'. Once she is a teenager and has her own money to buy things, she can make her own choices.

  3. I guess I don't see a problem with it. Just because they sell super sexy stuff doesn't mean you have to buy that style. They have plenty of modest choices available.

I'm too cheap to spend that kind of money on underwear though.

    1. Most of the comments on facebook were more about the $$$ too!

  4. Bad idea, she's setting herself up for trouble.

  5. So interesting to read all these opinions. I guess I never thought about it since I have boys!

  6. Wow, that's all I can say. Of course my daughter is only 4! I have never been so thankful for Cinderella undies than I am at this moment :)

  7. My daughter is 28 now. When she was younger, I let her be a child as long as possible. It drove me crazy to see 11-year-olds dressed like they were 17!
However, if the undies are well-made and have good 'coverage,' I'd have no problem with them. Lacy and girly vs. skanky is what I mean. However, I'd be surprised a tween could find anything at VS that would fit, as I think the lingerie is sized for a more 'adult' figure!
I totally agree with Tara about a mom who discusses her daughter's private life on TV. The poor kid must have been mortififed!

  8. I wouldn´t get VS, because I find them too expensive for myself, and I wouldn´t talk about it on TV, either, but other than that - if I´m not pushing it on my daughter, but it comes from herself, I´d be fine with it. H&M has really cute sets for girl, and I don´t mind them wearing some lace, if they want to.
And there´s always pocketmoney - when I was 14, I went busking with my guitar, in the streets, to earn my first bra. By the age of 16 I had a really nice collection :)

  9. VS has a lot of plan, cute, full-coverage panties that are perfectly fine for a tween, in my opinion. However, I agree with others that it's the price that would bother me. I wouldn't want to spend that much when plenty of other stores have cute full-coverage panties at a much lower price point.

However, at the same time, I don't have a daughter so maybe I'll change my mind if I ever do have a girl. haha.
