Recurring Nightmares

So, I'm a vivid dreamer.  I can usually remember at least one dream each morning.

I talked about my strange and twisted dream life  a few years ago and I'm happy to say that many of those dreams have phased out...only to make way for newer, more twisted recurring dreams.

My latest recurring dream/nightmare involves being in some sort of public place, like a mall, and looking for a bathroom.  Once I find the bathroom, always located right in a main traffic area like in the hallway or something, I begin to look through a maze of stalls.  I have trouble finding one because they are all so public, I mean shoppers are walking right past the stall doors with their Macy's bags!

Usually, once I find a stall and start to "go" I realize that the stall either has another door connecting to a neighboring stall, or no back wall, or really short walls and I'm looking right at the person beside me...etc...  I jump up and the search begins again to find a safe, private place to go to the bathroom.

It's maddening!  It's frustrating!  It's stressful!  It goes on and on!

What in the world does it mean?  Well, I went to the online dream analyzer and discovered it could mean I have frustrations with getting enough privacy in my daily life, or I have difficulty expressing my emotions.  Bathroom dreams can also indicate  "issues of control, rebellion, and independence".  Eh...maybe...

It's Feedback Friday...

Tell me about a recent or reoccurring dream and I'll analyze it for you with my magic analyzer!

  1. I always have one that my husband and I are dating, but he won't marry me b/c he doesn't really love me-since we've been happily married for 17 years this really bugs him. My mom had a reoccurring dream for years and years that she was saving children from drowning. She would even wake up to the sounds of babies crying and made my dad investigate (once resulting in them being locked out of the apartment in their underwear and have to go find the super to let them in). They stopped right after they adopted their second daughter from Korea.

    1. Well, Tara, my magic 8 ball says that your husband in your dreams could represent a habit or behavior you view as permanent and unchangeable. Smoking, biting your nails, etc...this thing is with you always, like your husband. Are you trying to quit something or wish (or does he wish) you didn't do it?

I love the resolution to your mom's dream :)

    1. Wendy, you are crazy. Just kidding :)

My "sources" tell me that you probably dream but can't remember because of your sleep cycles or stress. Also, they say that some people are just predisposed to forget dreams.

    2. Your sources are probably correct... 5 hours of sleep a night and a little stress going on.....BUT, Maybe I'm just totally forgetful ~ my husband would agree with that one :)

    1. interesting! Swami says that being barefoot represents playful attitudes and relaxed, carefree frame of mind. BUT it can also mean you are unprepared for something ahead! ooooohhhh!

  5. I'm with Wendy. My dream memory is a bust. Both my sister and daughter have vivid dreams and I'm always envious. Once I had a "dream" where my deceased mom visited me but to this day I'm convinced it wasn't really a dream because I remembered every bit. (sigh)

  6. It's kind of nice to think about dreams as a place for your loved ones to visit :). A final opportunity to say goodbye

  7. I have had that exact dream!
Funnily enough, here in Seattle, at the Pike Place Market they have some public bathrooms with 3 foot doors, so your head and shoulders do extend above the doors. I'm sure it is to cut down on drug use. It is a grin and bare it/ shrug it off, we're all in it together kind of experience.

My most common anxiety dream is that I am driving a car full of people up an increasingly steep incline until it is practically vertical and the road is so wet it is almost a river and I have to get the car full of people safely to the top.

    1. That bathroom is, literally, my nightmare!

So, driving dreams indicate your journey thru life. If you are driving down a steep incline & trying to get people to safety maybe it could be a reminder of a tricky situation that is difficult to maneuver but that you still feel responsibe for - teenagers? New baby? New job?

  8. Most of the times, I only have hapy dreams, or interesting exciting dreams, with topics I wouldn´t write about on a public board :) It´s been a long, long time since I had my last nightmare.

However, before stressfull situations, from time to time I still have that classic - being in school, and my teacher tells my I didn´t pass my A-Levels, and I tell him that can´t be true, since I went to University for years, and then he tells me nope, sorry girls, that´s not valid anymore, too, your work was for nothing.
But it´s getting less and less over the years.

    1. We'll it says that a dream about failing a test could mean you might have low self esteem or feel like you don't measure up to others expectations. So it make sense that the dream would become less frequent as you age and become more comfortable with yourself. Sounds like a milestone we all grow through!

  9. What is it about dreams in bathrooms? Mine are usually me going into a public bathroom, with multiple stalls, and most of them are really dirty, like, someone forgot to flush dirty, not to mention, I'm barefoot. Another is me trying to catch a plane to meet up my husband and kids, but I can never make it on time, but the main one is always with water, as in ocean or lake...hmm.

    1. It's got to be a lack of privacy thing to make bathroom dreams so common!

So, missing an airplane can symbolize helpless or trapped by some situation and the airplane is the obstacle. What could it be?

Water is representative of subconscious and your emotional state of mind. Is the water rough, turbulent, calm relaxing? The mood of the water could symbolize the mood of your inner emotion!

  10. Haha I am with Courtney-I have a reoccurring dream where I really have to use the bathroom and the only bathroom is filthy-like wet filthy (so so gross) and I am also sometimes barefoot. It usually happens when I'm stressed.

    1. Another deeper meaning of bathroom dreams could be an inner urge to "relieve yourself" of feelings or burdens. Also, if the bathrooms is a public one, you might be afraid of this "relief" becoming public and you might get judged.

Maybe the dirty stall indicates a fear of this unburdening getting messy if you let your feelings become known?
